VT-Shearhead is a steel construction for a column head widening within the reinforced concrete slab, or for a column base widening within the reinforced concrete base plate in order to increase punching shear resistance.
Load carrying principle
The loaded contact area given by the column cross-section is extended applying the VT-Shearhead and thus the punching shear resistance is increased. Statically seen, the VT-Shearhead corresponds to a column widening, which is, however, invisible. It must be proven that, on the one hand the punching shear resistance outside of the VT-Shearhead is fulfilled and on the other hand the shear force component that is not carried by the reinforced concrete plate can be carried by the VT-Shearhead. The beams of the VT-Shearhead are designed for this shear force component and the corresponding moment. The punching shear resistance can be further increased by combining the VT-Shearhead with additional shear reinforcement. The static proof for shear punching is carried out according to EC2 and for the steel shearhead design according to EC3/EC4.
Your benefits at a glance
- High punching shear resistance despite slender columns
- No visible punching shearheads / column head widening
- Enabling of thin slabs or base plates
- Individual solutions even in complicated cases
- For the structural engineer, the shear punching proof may be omitted
- Can be used in combination with VT-Column
Possible shearhead shapes
Whether in the middle, at the edge, in the corner or in a nook of a slab we offer you a geometrically matching VT-Shearhead!
If necessary, we adapt the shape individually to your existing plate geometry.
